What was the RPG Pipeline

The RPG Pipeline was a posting board to keep track of upcoming tabletop rpgs from 2015 to 2021 (this Blogger version began in 2019). It covered new English language ttrpgs and ttrpgs going into crowdfunding.

We Are Ciphers [$5.00]

We Are Ciphers [$5.00]:

We Are Ciphers is a 2-player letter-writing game where you get to play a spy team  who send secret messages through the mail.  You covet the Prize, which  you believe can transform your lives for the better.  But acquiring the Prize is an extremely tricky operation. Many things stand in your way, including the Target.

Created for the #SaveThe Post jam by Ken Davidson.

Artwork by me (J. Gurantz).

This game includes:

  • Six detailed letter exchanges (see photo below). Each with different writing prompts and with a micro-mission for both agents
  • A link to two google docs  that contain encryption techniques, online resources as, and ideas for mail art (ways to decorate your correspondence)
  • A mini-glossary of spy terms
  • A brief section on how to play this online (as a variation)

Together all 6 letter exchanges can lead to a unified story arc.

Inspiration:

This game was inspired by my love for letter writing and mail art. Our personal letters carry with them our feelings and thoughts. May We Are Ciphers entice people to send cool things through the mail.   Also, may this and other games in the jam help give the USPS and other postal systems visibility.

O sige! See you in the mail,

J.

  1. Eeeeek! Randonmly found this. Thanks for sharing my game. Right now, I 'm playing it, and it's been fantastic. We're on Letter #6 and we're playing witches who covet a rare apple. We each have a familiar and we've just stolen the apple from a fellow witch but a sad truth has been revealed causing my character to decide NOT to taste the apple. When magic is so powerful sometimes, the cost of it becomes too high.

  2. Btw, Epistolary Richard, are you a letter writer? Let me know if you want to play "We Are Ciphers". So glad you are highlighting GM-less games (they're my favorite too).
