Coffee Shop Screenwriter [34% Off] [$9.90]

Coffee Shop Screenwriter [34% Off] [$9.90]:

SCREENWRITING GAMIFIED

Coffee Shop Screenwriter is a story-telling role-playing game for one or more players. Each player takes the role of the screenwriter as they’re frantically trying to write an original screenplay whilst sitting in a coffee shop.

By the end of the game you will have come up with an idea for a screenplay, whilst also developing the character of your screenwriter and discovering more about the coffee shop you’re writing from.

Coffee Shop Screenwriter is a great group game but can also be played solo. An average game will last between one and two hours.

The Screenplay Beats your character is following are also used by professional Hollywood screenwriters, so if you are feeling really adventurous you could use this game to actually write a feature-length screenplay.

JHckMQ.jpg

Overview

You are an unsuccessful screenwriter who needs to send your latest screenplay to your agent by the end of the day. Unfortunately you haven’t written it yet and you didn’t sleep last night so, in a desperate final attempt, you go to your favourite coffee shop to write, in the hope that caffeine will make you more creative.

RS03LW.jpg

Caffeine

Your writing ability is directly affected by the level of caffeine in your system. When you’re full of caffeine you’re able to come up with original ideas and draw on your life experience in creative ways but when you’re running low on caffeine you resort to stealing ideas from other movies you’ve seen or you even just look around the coffee shop and draw ideas from what you can see around you.

You'll use one die to keep track of how much money you have and one die to keep track of your Caffeine Level. Your Caffeine Level goes down each turn but you're also able to buy coffee to increase your Caffeine Level.

The number on the caffeine die affects where you can draw inspiration from:

MxWAzw.png

Original Idea:

You’re on top of your game and can literally come up with anything you put your mind to. Draw a little lightning bolt next to your original idea on the Screenplay sheet to remind you of the time that you were struck by a bolt of true inspiration. You’re a genius!

 Life Experience:

You use an element of your real life as a source of inspiration. It can be something from your current life, a past experience (maybe something that happened last night), or a hope for the future. Add the real life experience to your Character Sheet. You’re a sensitive poet.

 A Movie:

You take another movie as inspiration and change it just a little bit so that your agent won’t recognise it. Add the title of the movie to your Movie List. If it’s more similar to one of the movies your screenwriter loves draw a heart next to it. If it’s more similar to one of the movies your screenwriter hates draw an X next to it. You could also use a movie that’s already on the list as inspiration, if you do then draw a heart next to it. This serves as a reminder of your influences at the end of the game. You’re a hack.

 The Coffee Shop

You’re tired as can be and can only muster up enough energy to look around you. What or who do you see in the coffee shop? Maybe it’s a couple having a conversation. Maybe it’s art on the wall. Maybe it’s a dog quietly peeing in the corner. Maybe it’s something you see happening outside the window. Use what you see as your inspiration and then write or draw it on the Coffee Shop Sheet. If you’re using something that’s already there as inspiration then draw a heart next to it to show that it’s been used more than once. You’re too tired and need more coffee.

Ambience

To make your gameplay more immersive you can also add to your order an hour of coffee shop ambience to listen to whilst playing.

Alternatively, you could play the game in an actual coffee shop.

The Longest Year Of Your Life [Free]

The Longest Year Of Your Life [Free]:

It’s new year’s eve. You and your friends are sitting down to dinner, reminiscing on what has been the longest year of each of your lives. Your friends have both helped you and let you down in a myriad of ways. However else you feel about them, you have not forgotten their actions during this time.

The Longest Year Of Your Life is a short story game for 3 players, written for the second BadTTRPGs game jam and inspired by this tweet. It's a game about friendship and disappointment. It's a game about memories without nostalgia. It's deeply earnest, if nothing else.

Mousemate [Free]

Mousemate [Free]:

Written for the Wholesome RPG Jam!

Mousemate is an epistolary game set in a cottage where the new owner discovers a letter from the local mice and does the only logical thing and writes them a reply. The game takes place in real time so you can take your time and respond to the other player after a day or two. So it's good if you don't have time to sit down with a friend for a few hours at a time. It's kind of like a LARP about being house mates except one of the players is a mouse.

This is a rules light system. Like a really rules light system. One could even argue it is entirely rules free and is just a loose framework of a game. Chill vibes and relaxed pace for those looking for a real casual game to play.

Tampalasan ALPHA [Free]

Tampalasan ALPHA [Free]:

Tampalasan is a rules-light rpg for spear-and-sorcery adventures with a Filipino/SEA-ian feel. It is a module and hack of Knave's attribute rules, UVG's skill system, and Best Left Buried's grip and combat system. It is also largely inspired by Chris Fabon's Alamat ng Astig and BJ Recio's Meilakanjan.

This is left unfinished as I am taking the game into a different direction (taking inspiration from Macchiato Monsters for equipment and advancement generation) and the rules might change greatly or minimally. So I'd rather release this alpha version for everyone to read. If you feel like playing it, feel free to contact me to clarify any rules or wordings. And I'd highly appreciate any comments, suggestions, or feedback about this version.

This game has an English and Filipino-Tagalog translation.

Any payments for this game will be used to fuel the development of the newer version, which will be a separate project.

Zoom Scouts [Free]

Zoom Scouts [Free]:

... I've never watched an episode of Power Rangers in my life. And yet, I'm pretty sure that this is accurate.

Zoom Scouts is an extremely silly story game. You are the Zoom Scouts, radical teens and tweens who have been granted martial arts prowess and giant robots that combine into the Mega Mech. But since soccer practice ran long, this episode of Zoom Scouts skips all the build up and opens with the giant robot.

Work together! Control a robot! Fight a monster! This is 100% goof-em-up role playing, made for playing on a video chat service (although you could do it live together if you're of a mind). Earn tokens  by allowing the monster to beat up the Mega Mech; spend tokens to beat up the giant monster, and unleash your ultimate attack when the episode is almost over to save the day. Until next week.

Have you ever wanted to uppercut a kaiju all the way to the moon? Do you have detachable robot fists you don't intend to use until the final blow? Have you a yearning to find out what's going on at Sinister Sarah's dastardly space base? Then Zoom Scouts is here for you.

GODEATER [Free]

GODEATER [Free]:

W9GILg.png

Because
the world is ruined, it can be rebuilt.

Because
we can die, we can change.

Because
the past is dead, we may finally have a future.

What if D&D's approach to history and divinity was the exact opposite of reverential?

GODEATER
is a serious attempt to build a game that can do everything D&D
does, but is nevertheless resolutely not D&D in a funny hat. It
is a game about problem-solving and tough choices, in a world
littered with the cavernous bodies of dead deities. It combines some
of the sensibilities of the OSR school of gaming with more up-to-date
mechanics and a focus on characterisation. It also includes an
intuitive magic system based around control and communication of
elemental spirits, and an attempt to build a world a little beyond
generic fantasy and all of its unfortunate implications.

The
Core Rules are simple enough to fit onto three pages, but the
included document packs in fifteen pages worth of additional content:
Details about the world, a guide to GMing, six fully-detailed Gods to explore and devour, and a selection of items,
threats and general weirdness for you to include in your campaigns.
Hack it, mess with it, do whatever you want. I’m not your dad.

More
stuff may be forthcoming for this system – adventure modules, more
items and character cards, and so on – if there's any demand for
it!

Mothering Invention [Free]:

To be Wicked is to be sinful, deviant, desirous, fierce. It is disruptive. It is necessary.

To be Divine is to be rapturous, inhuman, more symbol than life. It is perfection. It is necessary.

To be both? That is something else entirely.

Mothering Invention is a game about people who think they are gods, or maybe gods that think they are people. Either way, they're disaster-people with a lot of ideas about culture, romance, and the end of the world.

This game owes an obvious and massive debt to the excellent The Wicked + The Divine, by Kieron Gillen and Jamie Mckelvie. It's more than just a tribute act, though - it has a unique system for embodying deities, an elegant system for tracking and exploring social currency, and a general design that emphasises relationships and lets you explore the relationships between people and ideas.

It's also based on the wonderful Lasers and Feelings, a truly spectacular system that has inspired some equally spectacular hacks - do check some of them out if you can!

I have gone this far [Free]

I have gone this far [Free]:

yIF5A%2F.png

You have been a fraud all your life, or so you thought. Telling people about demons and devils, warning them, selling them worthless wards and trinkets. Little did you know, you were right all along. Demons do exist and one has possessed your charge, who lives with you since their parents died. One night, when you were working on some new trinkets filled with mosses and bark, your charge came down the stairs, an empty look on their face. Their eyes turned violet and you could no longer move.

Then they spoke, “In exchange for their soul I require many others. You will provide them for me. Take this book and deck, they will help you with your task. There is no way out of this, don’t toy with your charges life.”

What?

“I have gone this far” is a game about seeing how far you are willing to go to protect someone you love. It is about isolation, desperation and guilt.

You play a soothsayer, a charlatan, a trickster that has been preying on the fears of people for years now. You sell trinkets and read cards and tea leaves. You never believed in what you sold people. Now you do. It is on you to free your charge from possession or even banish the demon entirely.

How?

You will draw cards, roll dice and pull pieces from a tumbling block tower to generate prompts for your story. Each round of the game is a Ceremony in which you collect a soul and offer it to the demon, hoping they will free your charge. You will record each Ceremony by writing it down, recording audio or video or any other means you can think of.

Content Warning

The odds of "winning" this game are extremely low, please consider this before you buy or play it, you will likely not succeed. Even the best outcome will have bad consequences for the characters in the game. You will be asked to do terrible things and dealing with the guilt of these actions is part of the game. Stopping at any time is a valid way to end the game. You are also allowed to cheat and break the rules the demon gives you. Be creative to reduce the harm you cause.

This game includes the following, their intensity depends on you:

  • Ritual sacrifice
  • Harm to innocents
  • Loss of control
  • Manipulation
  • Intense guilt
  • Children in danger

What you need

  • Rider-Waite tarot deck of cards (alternatively Standard Poker Deck)
  • A single 6-sided die
  • A tumbling block tower (alternatives available)
  • 10 tokens of some kind - preferably rings, necklaces, photos, a pocket watch, a rosary or anything else that has personal value, but anything will work
  • A way to record your story (Journal, Camera, Microphone, ...)
This game is based on The Wretched by Chris Bissette and was created for the Wretched & Alone Jam.  You can find the Wretched & Alone SRD here.

In The Light Of Death The Demon Cries [30% Off] [$4.90]

In The Light Of Death The Demon Cries [30% Off] [$4.90]:

XoLrFs.jpg

CONTENT WARNING:

This game features the following concepts and themes: demons, fatal violence, the killing of innocents, grief, betrayal, death, and inescapable evil. While this game focuses on the light of hope at the core of despair, these themes should be carefully considered and may cause distress or be triggering.

This Is A Game You Play Alone

This game offers you the chance to create your own story of horror, despair, regret, and sin. You will create your demon, onerecovered memory at a time. The Demon may find redemption,  or they may be finally consumed by a hell of their own making. The Demon is dying. There is no coming back from that. This isn’t about overcoming death. This is about finding humanity, and creating, or denying, a path to salvation and forgiveness. Will your Demon rediscover their humanity and recover bittersweet memories, accepting reincarnation?Or will they spend their last moments cursing humanity, waiting for hell to claim what’s left of their soul?Or does another fate await them?

The Inspiration

This story game’s main inspiration is the anime series Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba, 鬼滅の刃

). The story’s protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, shows great compassion and mercy to the demons he kills. He kills them to protect innocents and stop their reign of terror. But he understands that these demons were humans once, and have lost their way.I created this game to reflect the moments of haunting humanity we see as the demon dies. We see glimpses of the demon’s life as a human, their slow and terrible corruption, and the unanswered question: what awaits the demon in death?I offer this game to you, to create your own story of horror and answer the question: what does redemption ask for?

This game is based on the Wretched & Alone system, and was made for the Wretched & Alone Jam!

The Game

To play this game you will need a tarot deck and a tumbling blocks tower. You can play with a free phone app or website if you don't have access to those. To play simply draw from your tarot deck and refer to the memory oracle. As the memories are uncovered, record these memories and how your Demon feels about them. Some of these memories are powerful, and will bring Death closer, asking you to pull from the tower. Each question you are asked will help you create a beautiful story. When the tower falls, your Demon dies.

Depending on what cards you pulled, a specific ending awaits your Demon, open to your interpretation.

Dungeon Whatever [Free]:

Look, I’m going to come clean: I don’t have rules on how to make a Dwarfcube Firebreather, a Gun Slime or a Dracotaur Wizard in the game. I just doodled some stuff for the cover and didn’t even think about whether it fit the tone or feel of the game. My bad.

This is a fantasy role playing game, which means you are playing together in a shared fantasy world that you are creating collaboratively. Most times it will be a back and forth conversation of what cool shit the characters you made up are doing, and you can just decide together whether it fits within the bounds of what you’ve agreed “makes sense”.

You're going to need some pen or pencils, some paper, erasers, and some good old polyhedral dice sets.

In short: Make some characters, use whatever rules in this document sounds good to you, steal some other rules from other games, make up a story together and have a good time.

My Brain Is A Stick Of Butter [$3.00]

My Brain Is A Stick Of Butter [$3.00]:

TD8jzz.png

My Brain is a Stick of Butter is a solo tabletop roleplaying game about living a week with ADHD and how hard it can be to balance all of the tasks life expects you to complete. It takes about 20 minutes to play, at which point you can step out of the game world and back into your real life.

This is a very personal game about my experience in life, so I thank you very much for checking it out. If you end up playing it, I'd love to see your playsheet! If you feel up for it, you could send it to me on twitter, @adamebell

Go about your days trying to do your job, maintain your social relationships, get all your chores done, and find time to enjoy yourself. You might not get everything done that you want to this week, but that's the way it usually shakes out anyway.

To play, you'll need the .pdf, a deck of cards, a single six-sided die, a pencil, and a copy of the the playsheet (either print the one here or use the Online Playsheet in Google Slides).

Five Blue Dragons [$5.00]

Five Blue Dragons [$5.00]:

You play as a Destroyer, one who was born and raised to violently oppress others to maintain the System of Power your people created to safeguard their dominance. To stop yourself from causing further damage, you have entered the spirit world to sever your spirit from its five attachments to the System. Guarding the attachments are five blue dragons, spiritual embodiments of the reasons motivating you cling to Destruction. You must defeat all these dragons if you hope to achieve your goal.

This game is played with the following materials:

  • 1 six-sided die (1d6)
  • 10 double-sided tokens, such as coins
  • 1 standard 52-card deck
  • A journal or electronic writing space
The main inspiration for this game was the T.V. show Avatar: The Last Airbender,  which features a subplot of Fire Nation exiles trying to stop themselves from doing more damage to everyone around them. The question this game seeks to answer is: what does the pursuit of moral accountability require from a person who has committed unforgivable acts of violence? This is a game about confronting the ugliness of your past and present, not to find personal redemption, but to fulfill the obligation to change your future.
In order to download this game you must purchase it at or above the minimum price of $5 USD. You will get access to the following files:

Each copy of this game you buy helps someone else grab a free copy if their budget doesn't enable them to pay the listed price. If you're unable to budget for a copy of the game priced as listed, please claim one of these free copies for the community.

A Game About Throwing Tantrums [$7.50]:

In order to download this temper tantrum you must purchase it at or above the minimum price of $7.50 USD. You will get access to the following files:

Four Teenagers Trapped In A Dark Room At The End Of The World is a game about four teenagers trapped in a dark room at the end of the world. It is also a game about intense relationships, awkward mistakes, and the inevitability of pain.

This game was not designed to be played: like apocalypses and teenagers, it is both physically and emotionally unsafe. If, despite this warning, you do choose to play, it is best to do so with a group of people that you trust but do not love.

Written by Kaiya Lewis-Marlow.

Available as both a PDF and as a physical zine. It's 12 pages long, and includes graphic design by Jay Dragon. Four Teenagers Trapped In A Dark Room At The End Of The World is part of the emerging Lyric Game genre on Itch.

Ritual To Summon An Indifferent God [$7.50]

Ritual To Summon An Indifferent God [$7.50]:

%2B%2FfHBi.png

How long and how far have you walked? When you wore through the soles of your shoes you wrapped your feet in linen, and when the linen broke you had only the shroud of your own skin. The salt of four oceans and the dust of four deserts is embedded in your palms. Everything you had, you left behind you on the road, which is longer than memory and knotted like the fur of a wild dog. In front of you is an obscure future, and a distant promise of rest. But you cannot reach it alone.

In Ritual To Summon An Indifferent God, you play as a pilgrim on the final step of your journey. The god that you must summon is remote, invisible, unassailable. The two of you have never spoken, and you have no reason to believe it will answer your prayers. Pray anyway.

A solo RPG, written by Kaiya Lewis-Marlow.

Available as both a PDF and a physical zine. It's 16 pages long, including front and back cover, and includes graphic design by Jay Dragon and art by Worsey. A Ritual To Summon An Indifferent God is part of the emerging Lyric Game genre on Itch.
