Runners in the Shadows [Free]

Runners in the Shadows [Free]:

Runners in the Shadows is a game Forged in the Dark about a group of daring operatives building a criminal enterprise in a fantastical dystopian vision of near-future Earth. There are dangerous meetings, thefts, bloody fights, chases, escapes, deceptions, betrayals, successes, and deaths.

We play to find out if the fledgling crew can thrive amidst the teeming threats of rival crews, powerful gangs, ruthless corporate agents, corrupt law enforcement, and the sweet allure of the future’s many vices.

So plug in, reload, and breathe deep of the cost of becoming a legend in the shadows.

In this game you'll find:

  • the same robust set of action, downtime, flashback, and planning rules that helped win Blades in the Dark its place among the best games of 2015 and 2016. Runners places a heavy focus on the fiction first: to do it, you have to do it.
  • the protected enclave of Seattle, feeding on the datasphere in an alternate-history Earth. There are tons of friends and enemies (and frenemies) to make in this sprawling sandbox.
  • the Man won, the world is haunted, and dragons are real, sure... but What about it is too familiar to our own world? What common supernatural things would we find surprising? There is a rich metaplot to explore, but you'll need to make this fantasy Earth your own.
Also, numerous additions to the core system from Blades, including but not limited to:

  • three new actions: Interface, Assense, and Attune.
  • rules to create your runner using seven futuristic criminal archetypes that you can mix and match to your heart's content: the FaceHacker, Muscle, Punk, RiggerSnake, orTrigger. In addition to this are three supernatural archetypes (you may choose one of these): the Adept, Magician, or Technomancer
  • all runners are not created equal though.. the rules for permutations let you show us how you want to be rich and have a bunch of enemies, or have close friends & luck galore but otherwise be basic AFPlus, rules for 7 different metatypes (elvesdwarvestrollsorkshumanspixies, and centaurs).
  • conversions of the Blades crew playbooks to futuristic versions thereof: AssassinsCouriers, a CultMercenaries, or Shadows. Plus,a new playbook for those Radicals who hope to be the change they want to see in the dystopian world.
  • overhauled special items to satiate GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) in all of you. Get rich, save hard, and you'll retire with an okay apartment and a small business (OOHHH). Or don't... and end up awash in vice, misery, and poverty (LUL, also fun). Or maybe die in the wrong hands and become a cyberzombie under the GM's control. Or continue to play as a free spirit. Or get infected so you'll be an powerful creature of biological terror. Or throw your brain (and what's left of your ghost) into a shell. Cyberpunk story generator: FULLY ENGAGED.
  • Futurism chapter, complete rules for installing implants & tracking essence, to go with the included Implant Tracker (download in the Sheets pack) to keep track of it all. Fastest hacking, and droning; just grab your deck or modified comm and go. Or use high-tech head hardware, it's up to you. Maybe you want to assist the Muscle by bricking their opponent's gun for a cyberpunk tag team move? No problem, mark 1 edge and your teammate gets +1d to smash them.
  • A Food Fight example (of course). Also a tense starting situation involving Halloweeners, the Vitale family underdog Mafia squad, and a bunch of former pilots turned smugglers. Each of them has Johnsons hiring a runner team, or else stay the hell out of the way. A detailed description of the enclave city of Seattle, complete with a handy map, faction trackers, and all the NPCs, schemes, and rumors you need to run an exciting sandbox game.
  • Bonuses galore: a veritable cornucopia of gameplay options, as well as advanced permissions & abilities to change and expand the game to suit your tastes. Nerd's Wish List. Gun-Fu. Initiation.  Forgotten Mentors & Emergent Paragons. Ley Lines & Geomancy. War Machine. Extraterrestrials. Pretty much the whole kitchen sink..
