Level Zero is a tabletop roleplaying game about people down on their luck doing odd jobs for a Witch, in the hope that they'll live long enough to retire with their earnings. Unfortunately, the world is a place of dark caprice - debt, goats and inexplicable tavern fires threaten to send the fledgling adventurers to their graves as they scrabble for coin in the cheery underbelly of a fantasy world gone horribly wrong.
Level Zero is a game for 1 storyteller and 2+ players.
Your group of unlucky dogsbodies each needs just 17 measly coins to achieve their goal and retire from the adventuring game forever. How hard can it be? The witch just needs you to, say, look after a duplicitous porcelain mule and take it through the spider fens.In this standalone game, based loosely on the Forged in the Dark SRD, you'll find:
- 79 pages of grim whimsy and a tailored character sheet to build budding, doomed adventurers.
- Rules to create your own inexperienced adventurer, complete with basically no talents or assets.
- A core mechanic streamlined down to the bare essentials so people like me can jump in with little preparation
- Tables and suggestions for the kinds of horrible tasks the Witch likes to involve people in, from Rescuing people who don't want to be rescued to Delivering suspicious (and possibly snake filled) packages to ungrateful recipients
- A COIN based subsystem that tortures characters with the distant possibility of retirement, whilst bogging them down with endless expenses and ever-increasing debt
- Worldbuilding elements including a bestiary of obnoxious creatures and a description of the disreputable businesses operating in the Witch's shadow
