Epiphany is set in the land of Hyperborea, surrounding the opening to the Inner Earth at the North Pole. They prosper in the light and warmth coming from the Inner Earth, in divinely ordained separation of class and status that manifests in actual advantages to those more blessed. A person of high status is better at what they do than someone of lesser status and the same skill. Everyone strives to better themselves, but it takes more than competence. It takes great deeds to draw the attention of the gods.
With this evidence of the divine plain to see, religion and faith play a great role in society, with separate societal classes for the Priests who channel divine power directly, and the Sorcerors of the Collegium who manipulate the energy that permeates all things. The Nobility rule, the Artisans craft and the Soldiers protect.
And so it has been for longer than there are historical records to document. But there is unease in Hyperborea. The barbarians of the Inner Earth are more restless than normal, fabricating stories of Lizardmen attacks on outlying settlements, and while the auguries and omens are indeed unusual, nothing has ever challenged the primacy of Hyperborea and nothing ever will. Or so the Archons say.
Epiphany uses a setting-specific system designed to make the unique nature of Hyperborean society part of the game mechanics. It has enough realism to keep you on your toes, enough heroism to let you take chances, and simple enough to let you concentrate on the role-playing and not the rule-playing.
Epiphany includes the 146 page rulebook (including a 10 page starting adventure), the separate Bysand Alhalsu 13 page adventure and a 10-page player handout, outlining Hero creation and Hyperborean society (the handout is the publisher preview).
