The Necromancer [20% Off] [$8.00]

The Necromancer [20% Off] [$8.00]: by @keganexe

 Content Warnings

Physical injury, abandonment, death (of both yourself and your partner), sickness, and general misery.

About

The Necromancer is a one player The Wretched hack that uses birthday candles, a tarot deck, a 6 sided dice, and a journal to tell the queer story of a necromancer desperate to return their dead love back to life. I made heavy use of The Wretched & Alone  SRD in writing this, but it is a stand alone game!

Funding/Preorder

The Necromancer is funding via Itch instead of using Kickstarter or another contemporary. The game is on it's way as is (and is most of the way finished), and is going to be released regardless of how much funding it gets! That being said I'd like to be able to buy some things to make it a little nicer, so we have some stretch goals, and if you order it before I get the game out you'll get it at a nice discounted price (20% off). The game is looking to be around the 20 page mark currently, but that's subject to change a bit as I finish up.

Stretch Goals:

  • $100: I buy some stock art to make the interiors all look nicer.
  • $200: I pay an editor to give the game a once over! I'll be using my usual editor here,  who I get extra cheap because we are married.
  • $300: I add 50 community copies to the pool.
  • $500:  I will commission some art for the game, instead of exclusively using stock images like I am currently! At this funding amount, I will also start to look at getting a print run together, and offer discounts to anyone who bought a digital copy early.
  • Anything higher than this is super appreciated, and I'll make good use of it but I don't wanna dream up a scenario here . If we start to approach higher numbers, I'll take a second look at this!

Story

Necromancy is a curse, a disease, and it always kills the practitioner eventually. You’re not entirely sure what you did to become a necromancer, but you know that the dead themselves now bend to your very will. Upon the discovery of your necromancy, the town you live in has pushed you to the very outskirts, and they now treat you with scorn and derision, as if the whims of fate had been yours to command, and you chose this death sentence for yourself.

Your partner has died. Your magic can do a lot, and while you can make a corpse dance, or a skeleton perform parlor tricks, you can't actually reverse death. Nobody can. A body can reanimate, but a soul gone is a soul gone that's just how it works.

That's how it worked, you've found a ritual, you don't believe the person who wrote it down survived it, but you might. You have to. You can stitch their soul back together, stitch their body back together, and bring them back.

It might kill you, but it's the only option.
