What was the RPG Pipeline

The RPG Pipeline was a posting board to keep track of upcoming tabletop rpgs from 2015 to 2021 (this Blogger version began in 2019). It covered new English language ttrpgs and ttrpgs going into crowdfunding.

Gunmetal Sonata [Free]

Gunmetal Sonata [Free]:

Gunmetal Sonata is an urban fantasy RPG about monster hunting millennials tracking and slaying threats to humanity through a system that splits between noir investigation and highly-stylized anime action.

Features / Design goals:

  • A stunt-heavy dice-pool driven combat system where all you need is one hit to win, but landing that hit is an extended contest of wits and commitment.
  • Police procedural episodic play loops, where players split up and race against the clock to investigate cases and prepare for inevitable showdowns.
  • Player-facing systems that model stress as PCs navigate a world where caring is hard - but also necessary - for pulling yourself past the finish line.
  • Mechanical crunch and table presence inspired by board game design (abstract strategy, tactile components, play references etc).

Fiction inspirations: Fate/Stay Night, Under Night In Birth, RWBY, Devil May Cry, Arknights.

Game inspirations: Exalted, Dogs in the Vineyard, BattleCON, Exceed, Magic the Gathering.

Behind the Scenes:

Gunsong is a game I plan to take to Kickstarter someday. In service of that, the game text will remain free because I plan on charging for it later down the line. This itch page will be hosting up-to-date playtest documents until things get super commercial.

If you wish to support the game, it desperately needs playtesting.  Even reading it and dropping feedback on read-feel would be a big help - you can find me on my design discord. Alternatively, I also have a patreon.

If you can't read a PDF for whatever reason, the full game text is also available on google docs here. I'll be creating google docs versions for each release besides the PDFs going forward.

Gunmetal Sonata is Powered By The Apocalypse and Forged In The Dark.
