Miss Austen! is a Regency Romance genre tabletop RPG system, in which the players take on the roles of debutantes seeking husbands in Regency Period England (1795 to 1837). It is a game of social intrigue, Machiavellian manipulation, seeking status, and hopefully, true love.
It models the stories of Jane Austen and Georgette Hayer.
Miss Austen! is a game where characters learn about the world and their place in it as they navigate the complexities of the social season: impress bachelors with talents at music and literary evenings, engage in witty banter whilst dancing at balls, undergo reconnaissance at the theatre, whisper forbidden confessions on day outings in a carriage; anything to avoid ending the season single – a fate potentially worse than death.
And if your GM is up to the challenge, satirise the duty to society and religious seriousness of the time to critique the portrayal of women and relationships in 18th-century sentimental novels. Play it serious, or play it as silly as you like.
It uses 1D20+1D6. A very simple system which can be understood in minutes, but leads to an interesting complexity of gameplay decisions and narrative. A great light-hearted alternative to the usual fantasy dungeon crawlers, and would make a great one (or two) shot to give your ordinary GM a break. Or to tempt a fan of Regency Romance into the RPG world.

Disclaimer: whilst Miss Austen! is set in the social mores of the period in which it is embedded, with all of the heteronormative patriarchal pressures of that time, we welcome players who wish to explore non-heteronormative relationships and non-traditional genders. We encourage enjoyment over historical realism. This is a game about parties and romance, and should therefore be fun above all else.
