What was the RPG Pipeline

The RPG Pipeline was a posting board to keep track of upcoming tabletop rpgs from 2015 to 2021 (this Blogger version began in 2019). It covered new English language ttrpgs and ttrpgs going into crowdfunding.

Ready Player 2.4 [Free]

Ready Player 2.4 [Free]:

This is a game I made for #24XXJam and #ArtIsEgoJam. It's a parody of Ready Player One and the awful subculture around obsessive fan trivia and so on. It's also a bookmark game because I meant to make something for the Bookmark Game Jam earlier this year.

The PDF is just a poor tiling of 5 bookmarks on each page, along with a black/white version if you (like me) cannot afford to print sheets with a lot of color. This is my artistic statement.

You only need a set of standard gaming dice and any preexisting TTRPG adventure. Any one. Whenever you attempt something risky, roll d6.

  • 1-2: You fail and things get worse.
  • 3-4: You succeed at a cost.
  • 5+: You succeed without any issue.

Before you roll the usual d6, you can make a reference to any movie, show, or other work. For each person at the table who <GETS IT>, step the die up: d6 -> d8 -> d10 -> d12.

No one else can refer to that work for the rest of the session. Make sure to keep track of all the cool references you make! That’s who your <character> is.

If you’re at a disadvantage while attempting the risky thing, step the die down once: d12 -> d10 -> d8 -> d6 -> d4.

Ernest Cline is a male chauvinist pig and the 80s were stupid. Ready Player One is just Sword Art Online for sad old men.
