Double or Nothing $6.00

Double or Nothing: Double or NothingPublisher: Newstand Press

Double or Nothing is a roleplaying game for 2 or 3 people, in which you take the role of a pair of agents who get involved in over the top disasters and have to shoot, kick, and flirt their way out, hopefully without creating too much collateral damage along the way. It is heavily based on Dirty Pair, and replicates the style and absurdity of the anime with a variety of simple and quick mechanics that will quickly lead to ever-escalating danger, and a corresponding bill for damages.

In many ways a spiritual successor to Damage Control, Double or Nothing is snappy to play and guaranteed to be ridiculous. Custom mechanics include flirting with one another for bonuses, tracking collateral damage in large monetary units, and actually, straight-up playing Truth or Dare with each other. It can be played with or without a GM, as a one-shot or a short campaign, and requires nothing but d6s and a token. It also contains a quick set of random generator tables so you can start playing within minutes.

It is also illustrated, and includes running examples throughout.

Kiss & Tell after a long mission.

Phase Shift: Full Edition $15.00

Phase Shift: Full Edition: $15.00

Phase Shift: Full Edition
Publisher: Phase Shift Games

This is the core rules and player's handbook (full edition) for the Phase Shift system.

What is Phase Shift?

The easy answer is that it’s a hybrid science fiction/fantasy standalone tabletop RPG system. What makes Phase Shift different from other RPGs? Phase Shift attempts to keep gameplay as simple as possible while keeping the feeling of a high power level. Our rolling system is streamlined to keep things moving as quickly as possible. Each class has abilities that are extremely effective in their own way, so no player feels like they aren’t contributing. For instance, even a Runner, who can’t take or deal nearly as much damage as other classes, can make a fight completely one-sided by stealing an enemy’s weapons and armor or redirecting a giant energy cannon to fire back at the person who fired it. And that all starts at a starting-level (0 XP) character!

And what makes Phase Shift so easy to play? Well, before you roll a skill check, you know exactly what number you are trying to reach. Roll a d20, add your bonuses, and if your total is 15 or higher, congratulations! You succeeded on whatever you were trying to do. While some more difficult actions might require you to roll more d20s and hit a higher number, you’re still doing the same basic process.

“But what about the setting?” you might ask. Excellent question, reader. Phase Shift is set far in the future, in a universe where magic and science are intertwined and inseparable after two dimensions merged. Magic is quantifiably real and magical fields can be manipulated easily by scientific instruments. Scientists can build a doom cannon that runs on soul power, and Arcanists can perform complex repairs on robots with a single magical spell. A side effect of the Merger was also that gods from previous dimensions took physical form and became empowered by those who worship them. Generally speaking, the galaxy is mostly in chaos. Areas of the galaxy are generally controlled by factions or shadowy mega-corporations, but for the most part there’s no government strong enough to control and/or cover up all of the cosmic horrors that keep showing up.

Most player characters belong to a mercenary organization known as the Galactic Department of Mercenary Affairs (GDMA), working for the Galactic Federation, which is the closest to a unified government that the galaxy has. GDMA mercenaries are given carte blanche on collateral damage during their missions (they understand the traditional “murderhobo” mentality of wandering adventurers), but they can be blacklisted if they are too destructive. The GDMA has some great malpractice attorneys.

Never Knows Best: Ashcan Edition $9.99

Never Knows Best: Ashcan Edition: $9.99

Never Knows Best: Ashcan Edition
Publisher: Samjoko Publishing

Never Knows Best is inspired by an anime called FLCL (Fooly Cooly) and wears this influence on its sleeve. This game and its rules focus on my own interpretation of the source material, rather than attempting to emulate the anime as closely as possible.

Never Knows Best (NKB) is a roleplaying game about middle school kids facing impending adulthood, growing up, and society’s—sometimes nonsensical—expectations and obligations. It’s designed for three-five players plus a game master (GM) who facilitates the game.

This game uses absurdism, metaphors, motifs, and literalization to represent the struggles and growth these kids go through. Society’s obligations and expectations manifest as outrageous forms—creatures and monsters not of this world. The kids combat these creatures by transforming into robots. Whenever a kid transforms, their robot takes on their unique strengths and traits representing how they reject society’s attempts to make kids conform and obey.

In this way, the internal conflict kids face when growing up becomes something real and seen. Battles are metaphors for their inner turmoil about who they are, where they fit in, and who they want to be.

This is an ashcan version of the game not be the final version. Based on playtesting and feedback of this version, mechanics may be tweaked and changed. It is somewhere between a quickstart and the final product.

Chalice

Chalice is a collaborative storytelling game about a party of Arthurian knights searching for the Holy Grail. It requires one Chronicler to moderate the game and portray the perils of the world, and one or more players to portray the knights. A game of Chalice takes around 3-4 hours.

The game tells the story of the physical and spiritual descent of the knights as they quest for, and ultimately fail to find, the Grail. The knight’s quest is a doomed one of chivalric virtue, undone by their own fatal flaws and moral shortcomings.

Devil's Staircase:Wild West Roleplaying is a light weight narrative role playing game set in the American wild west.

The game is diceless, using a poker style playing card system where players don't have to roll for random numbers using dice but get to play the card the gives them the best outcome.

Got a bad hand? Fold and take your chances with the next hand you are dealt.

Jokers give players the power to join in the narrative with special feats and outcomes.

Scion Second Edition Book One: Origin (Phone Version)
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing

You are the child of a God, born to the magic of yesterday and the promise of tomorrow. You live in a World of myth, where every ancient story is true. Your ancient enemies, the Titans, stir in their prison beneath the lands of the dead. Their spawn issues forth from lands of myth, and the specter of war falls across the heavens. In this age of turmoil, you seize your birthrights and feel the call of your blood.

Find your destiny. Live the myth. Embrace your Fate.

Scion is a game about Gods and humanity, and everything in between. It’s a game about mythic Deeds and the reasons people talk about those mythic Deeds. Scion: Origin details the Scions when they’re still (mostly) human, before the Visitation that introduces them to the divine World — they’re exceptional humans, perhaps, blessed with luck and skill or cursed with ill fortune and strange trials in their lives, but humans nonetheless.

This book includes:

  • The core rules and character-creation information for Scion Second Edition, powered by the Storypath system.
  • An in-depth look at the basic setting of Scion (called the World).
  • A list of the major players — the Gods, Titans, and Legendary creatures that comprise the setting.
  • Storyguide advice on running games for pre-Visitation Scions.

Battlelords of the Twenty-Third Century, 6th Edition
Publisher: 23rd Century Productions, LLC

The exploration and development of the known universe is progressing at a fantastic rate. The Galactic Alliance has prophesied the complete control of the local group of galaxies by the turn of the millennium. Huge, powerful mega-corporations run it all from behind the scenes. The twelve races of the Alliance work as caretakers, shaping and expanding the horizon of knowledge, extending to touch the farthest reaches of space.

Frontier colonies populate neighboring galaxies: Andromeda, Fornax, Spirax, and the Magellanic Clouds. Outposts dot M32 and the cluster galaxy of Talcos in Ursa Major, some 200,000,000 light years from the Core Worlds. The battle rages onward to drive out the Arachnid presence. Strange reports of ghost ship sightings, robot warriors, and evidence of ancient human cultures all filter their way across the vast, empty stretches of nothingness to the hearts of the bold, strong, and curious.

The mega-corporations have hired on a few good beings to get the job done; the Battlelords. They all have one thing in common: each believes that he, she, or it, can make a difference. They come from everywhere, from the vast savannahs of Cashoulis, to the infernal volcanic regions of Trishmag. From the methane hell of Eridine, to the great Seas of Pythos. They are energy controllers, bounty hunters, Swordsaints, and changelings, aliens from different worlds, with different agendas, thrown together in a morass of danger to carve out a common destiny.

Loyalty is to the company, yet corporate devotion never exceeds allegiance to your friends. The mercenary team embodies everything that is valued in society: esprit de corps, honor, and valor. At least that is what the papers say! Your job is a simple one, do anything and everything to stay alive. The company gets all the press. You get to pick up a paycheck. No one cares about methods, but in the 23rd Century, everybody needs a hero!

Are you ready?

EVERYTHING CHANGED WHEN THE BOMBS DROPPED...
We always expected that we would die slaves to the system at a ripe old age, or at the very least as victims of the global climate crisis or the ant-vaxxer movement. What we didn't expect was for one event - just a few moments - to bring about the end of everything we knew. In just a few minutes, everyone we loved was dead. The world would never be the same. We became citizens of The World After.

Teenage Wasteland is a coming-of-age game about kids struggling to survive and come into their own in a bomb-ravaged nuclear and biological wasteland. These kids must not only struggle against each other, but also deadly mutated creatures and mindless, zombie-like Ghouls that adults became after the bombs fell.

The game focuses on growth and development from kids toward adulthood, and all of the drama and conflict that comes with it as well as the struggle to simply survive in a world ravaged by biological weaponry and nuclear fallout.

Included are:

  • Five Unique Clique Types. Detailed within are the physically tough Jock, the socially ineffable Mean Girl, the intensely intellectual Nerd, the charismatic Popular kid and the mysterious Outsider. Each comes with unique powers, gear, and advancement rules suited to their role.
  • Tribe Creation Rules. Inside are rules to create a unique gang type called Tribe. Imagine a high school clique, only far more dangerous and with little to no accountability or supervision.
  • Streamlined Powered by the Apocalypse: Teenage Wasteland System. A super-minimized, complete system that emphasizes player decisions, non-binary successes, and is geared for adventuring and delving into the dark.
Intended for single sessions or short campaigns.
3-5 Players (including GM)
2-4 Hours per session
Low Prep. Medium Complexity.

Mutagen Trail is a roleplaying game for 3-5 players, including a GM, about a caravan of mutants traveling across a tractless wasteland.  The mutants have to make decisions to survive day to day in a strange and hostile world. If they live long enough, maybe they’ll find some hope for the future.

Picaresque is a game of drama and intrigue for 3-5 players, including a GM (Grand Maestro).  You play well-acquainted lesser nobility of minor name and pitiful means. You are also a picaro: to obey the laws and mores of a petty, corrupt society would be to confine yourself to a life of pettiness and corruption. You deserve more than your current station, and by your wits and guile, you will get it.

Mutagen Trail and Picaresque are radical hacks of Goblinville.  This text contains the full rules of play for both games.
