Armour Astir Advent: Playtest $5.00

Armour Astir Advent: Playtest: $5.00

Publisher: Briar Sovereign

Armour Astir: Advent is a high-fantasy roleplaying game about striking back against an authority that seeks to control you.

It is a game of rival pilots clashing in steel-clad Astirs, of soldiers holding their own against the odds, and of spies and diplomats twisting the world to their ends. It is not a game of careful preparation or pleasant truces;

It's hard to change the world without taking a risk.

Armour Astir: Advent is a PBTA game where the players use their wits, expertise, and their huge enchanted suits of armour to fight against an oppressive regime. As in in-development project, the playtest version of Armour Astir: Advent is available for free! If you just want to try out the game, you don't need to pay a penny. An in-progress version of the full rules, up to date with artwork from nearly a dozen artists and fiction by myself and guests, is available for purchase elsewhere and will be for sale here once complete.

Featuring;

  • Four 'Channeler' playbooks - magical mecha pilots who stride into battle in a custom Astir
  • Four 'Support' playbooks - the engineers, spies and diplomats whose skills lie off the battlefield
  • Customised Astirs - players may pick from examples, or design their own mech as part of character creation
  • Health/Harmless combat - players must force their opponents into a corner by making them take risks or putting them in peril
  • Simple Factions & Conflict Turn - The Authority makes claims and gains hold on Factions who must block their efforts
If you have feedback, concerns or criticism, feel free to contact me at weregazelle@gmail.com with the subject 'Playtest Feedback (Armour Astir)'.

XII: INNER DEMONS Playtest Demo $0.00

XII: INNER DEMONS Playtest Demo: $0.00

Publisher: Witch & Craft Games

Demons are real. Parasitic beings only loosely related to the creatures of myth, they feed on suffering, devouring the traumas of the weak and downtrodden. You are the poor soul who has experienced a very special kind of trauma, so special that it’s caught the eye of a truly dangerous enemy, the most monstrous and impossible of their kind. With the help of a ragtag band of lesser demons who certainly don’t have your best interests at heart, or perhaps another human with a kindred soul and no clue what they’re getting into, you have twelve days to confront the suffering that has been plaguing you... or face a very unfortunate end indeed.

XII: INNER DEMONS is an urban survival horror fantasy tabletop role playing game, set in a world much like our own, but with a lurking layer of supernatural predation and nightmare just out of sight. The players take up the roles of either mortal humans, thrust into a deadly game to confront their worst fears or be devoured by a nightmarish, otherworldly threat, or lesser demons working alongside these humans in search of power and to escape the ensuing collateral damage when one of the strongest members of their kind tears its way into the world to devour a human.

With twelve days before an Archdemon rips through the fabric of reality to devour one of the humans (and any unfortunate others who happen to be caught up along the way), it’s up to the players to stop it. To do so, they must hunt down six Seals, anchor-points that have tied themselves to the target human’s greatest traumas and fears, and unravel them before they can pull the Archdemon into reality. But these Seals are guarded by monstrous servants and other demons, eager to stall the players and feast on their delicious fear all the while. It’ll be up to them to either overcome those demons, or face their own and resolve the root of the trauma that powers each seal.

Between the pages, XII: INNER DEMONS  uses a straightforward and flexible 3d10 system, with an emphasis on easy to use abilities and quick and efficient mechanics. Players always roll 3d10 (or sometimes more) and count up the number of dice that have rolled over a target number: The more successes they get, the better they manage to do whatever it is they’re doing. Players can modify these rolls by purchasing Competences (for humans) or Powers (for demons), which allow them to add extra dice to their pool, though they’ll still only ever pick three dice to choose from. These Competences and Powers also give abilities and effects for players to use, from direct information from the GM to extra dice on different rolls to things like shapeshifting, possession, and wanton destructive force. XII is best played with groups of 4-6 players with one player as a GM, though is flexible enough to allow larger or smaller groups easily.

This is an open playtest demo of XII: INNER DEMONS, available for free for anyone interested. We'll be aiming to start a kickstarter for the finalized version of the game soon, complete with a full print run!

Osmond Ward $14.78

Osmond Ward: $14.78

Publisher: Connor Heighton

A Steampunk Heavy Weird West Tabletop RPG set in a Victorian era world plagued by intelligent undead, world ending weapons, magic, and gunsmoke.

Ah.... welcome. Kick off those dusty boots, will you? Listen to the tale of Osmond Ward, the City That Touched the Stars.

Our Story Begins in the year 1242. The war had finally ended, after close to two hundred years. The world was in grand and open celebration. Champagne and Beer flooded the streets and turned it gold, and men and women returned to their homes, tired, depressed, and alone in the world.

It is in this time that the Grand Engineer, Oma Fareen, unveiled the fruits of a hundred years of artificial life and isolation - Osmond Ward, a small city built into the mountains.

Over the next four hundred years, due to Oma's Prestige and her clockwork marvels, the city rapidly grew, twisting and turning in on itself, pressing ever upward and onward to the skies above.

You have just landed in Osmond Ward, in the year 1742. Spring has fallen upon Osmond Ward, and all sparkles and shines to greet the new day. That is but an illusion, however. Something dark lurks, far beyond the railways and well driven city streets. You can sense it on the winds, feel it in your bones. A long forgotten enemy stirs. This is how we begin.....

Welcome, Iron Walkers, to Osmond Ward.

As a system, Osmond Ward is meant to be run in a similar vein as other D20 Systems, with various modifications including an advantage and disadvantage based skill system, grit pools, Death as a balancing act, and more.

Osmond Ward is meant to be run by a party of 3 or 4 players and a Dungeon Master ("World Weaver"), newly coming off of DND or other d20 systems, but can be enjoyed by newbies and smaller parties as well. If the people in question have played a d20 system before, they will be aware of the more basic intricacies of this system, but there is many interesting bits and bobs that keep the game entertaining for the inquisitive mind.

So.

Shall we begin our story?

Fax in Tenebris $5.00

Fax in Tenebris: $5.00

Publisher: The Goat's Head

Fax in Tenebris is a roleplaying of knights, horror, and faith.

You play a band of holy Crusaders descending deep into an ancient crypt in search of a lost artifact: the Chalice.

As you delve ever deeper, you will confront not only shadows and horrors, but your own creeping doubts. Dwell too long in these suspicions, and a Crusader may turn away from the Light Divine—instead indulging in vile sin.

At its core, Fax in Tenebris is about keeping your faith in the face of fear and doubt: faith in the Light Divine, faith in your quest, and faith in your friends.

Fax in Tenebris is meant for short-form play: one session is common, you might push it as far as three or four.

Over the course of a game of Fax in Tenebris, you will face beasts of the shadow, accrue and expel doubts, delve deeper into the crypts, and eventually become marred with wounds and sin. The game has a strong horror element, as well a high likelihood of players turning on

each other. Even if you can persevere and find the Chalice, it may not herald the answers you desire.

Veritas vincit.

The Characters – 'So what do I actually do?'

To oversimplify, the player characters of The Elephant & Macaw Banner RPG – like Oludara and Gerard in Christopher Kastensmidt's original stories – travel from place to place exploring Brazil, meeting people of different cultures and helping them to fight off monsters from Brazilian folklore as well as human villains. It's no surprise that the world of EAMB is often referred to as "The Brazilian Witcher".

In the book you'll find everything you need to create adventurers from a dozen or so of the major cultures native to Brazil, as well as more recent arrivals from Europe and Africa. Wherever they're from, your characters will soon be out of their element as the road leads ever onwards to new and exciting discoveries!

The System

There are no character attributes in EAMB – only skills, which you can develop to three levels: Apprentice, Practitioner and Master. They range from general skills like horse-riding or swimming, to more specialized training in things like navigation, music, weapons, academia and languages. You gain learning points over the course of your adventures that you can spend on improving any skill.

When a player wants to use their character’s skill to resolve a challenging or risky situation, the outcome s not certain, and something serious is on the line, we call this a feat. You attempt a feat by rolling three six-sided dice, adding a bonus for your skill level (and sometimes equipment) and seeing if it meets the target number: typically 12 for an easy feat.

Some skills are very special indeed. They control the supernatural powers granted by Faith, Breath, and Ifá.

Faith is the product of divine blessings and devotion to the Christian church, tied to the use of divine graces to perform miracles.

Breath is the fundamental expertise of the pajé, the shaman and healer of the native peoples. The concept of spiritual breath is based on the importance of air, respiration, breath and the connection between these and the spirit world.

Ifá comes from the study of the teachings of Orunmila, brought to Brazil from Africa. Through this study, iyaláwos and babalawos learn how to prepare medicines and the techniques of divination to consult the orishas.
