In Shut Your Eyes And You’ll Burst Into Flames, you and your playmates explore the life and times of an immortal (or extremely long-lived) Hermit who lives, either by choice, circumstance, or a combination of the two, in the liminal gap between the “mundane” world and the wide, untamed unknown.
Every once in a while, sometimes every few years, sometimes once a decade, sometimes once a century, the Hermit gets visitors. Travelers, adventurers, investigators, and wanderers pass through on their way to deal with important matters of their own. Most stay for a very short while, a night or two, a week at most. A precious few stick around for longer, perhaps trading help around the house and the garden for a humble shelter away from the bustle of the world, a place to hide from their past, or the Hermit’s valuable tutelage. Everyone moves on eventually, of course, leaving our magical recluse to their own thoughts and devices.
Shut Your Eyes And You’ll Burst Into Flames is primarily concerned with those brief interruptions of the Hermit’s solitude when somebody (this group of adventurers, or that fated hero, or that couple of political dissidents on the run) stumbles across their home in their travels and petitions them for aid. Each distinct “round” of the game focuses on one such occurrence, but the brief story that emerges in any given round can absolutely involve the past and the future in whatever ways you and your playmates find to be most interesting.
