This is a single player journaling game, in which you create the tale of The Journey of the Last Great Space Beast and play out the details of its visits to different planets and interstellar locales until it’s inevitable death. At the beginning and end of the game you frame your story with the tale of the Descendants of the space beast, beings who are recounting this great cosmic legend.
The Last Journey of The Great Space Beast uses a computer simulation called Conway's Game of Life, designed to be used as an educational tool to teach students math. I first heard about it at physics summer camp as a kid. To play the game you fill in boxes in a large grid, their arrangement will determine patterns that evolve as you run the program and it goes through the simulation in a series of steps.
