The wealthy few and workers with the right skills fled to Mars and Venus, throwing themselves onto the mercy of private companies owning those planets. The desperate and poor holed up in giant domed bastions on Earth, of which only dread Acheron still survives. For average folk though, the digital realm offered their best chance of survival. The framework already stood, and most people had internet access. The promise of a virtual life seemed more alluring than Haven was built on a framework of patched-together MMO’s, the internet, and private company relays.
You are a Breaker, rebelling against the capitalist system that governs Haven. The ruling elite seeks to destroy you for your failure to comply. The Code, the engine which built your reality, seeks to destroy you for breaking the rules. For you, it’s liberty or death.
