Covert Wars is a Tabletop Role-Playing Game that takes place during one of humanity’s most difficult (and interesting) periods: the Cold War. The world is divided into two blocks; the West, led by the United States of America, and the East, headed by the Soviet Union.
In Covert Wars, one player takes the role of the Supervisor while the rest play as agents working for their chosen side (or even one of the few neutral countries!). As an elite CIA or KGB agent, players take part in perilous missions of sabotage, espionage, assassination and more! To survive and even better, succeed, players must use all the tools at their disposal (including spy gadgets such as the Glove Pistol, the classic Minox Camera, or even the Fountain Pen Gun) and trick, fight, cheat or seduce their way to victory.
In many ways, Covert Wars is a traditional RPG, with standard stats (Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Will, charisma) and skills (Conceal, Cryptography, Melee Combat, Persuasion, and many more), but we felt the setting needed something unique to reflect the life as a secret agent in a world on the brink of annihilation. This is why we introduced several unique mechanics, such as Conviction(how much will your faith in the cause waiver after seeing the measures your side takes in order to succeed?), Connections (links with outside sources, be they governmental officials, gang bosses, or even an old flame that now works for a diplomat), and Stress (will you hold being interrogated, or will you break?). and All these make Covert Wars the perfect introduction to role-playing during these turbulent times. With a detailed character creation and lots of tools for the Supervisor to create new and exciting operations (Technology acquisition, Infiltration, Kidnapping, Assassination, and many more), you’ll be playing in a matter of hours. And who knows, maybe you'll end up in a bad situation and forced to act as a double agent!
