Black Sun [Free]

Black Sun [Free]:

“Black Sun” is a science-fantasy hack of the Black Hack roleplaying ruleset by David Black played with paper, pencils, and dice. It is based on a campaign setting of a similar name by That Big RPG in 1991 but adds and takes away elements to make it a distinct streamlined flavor of the original campaign setting.

The world of Black Sun is centered around the Sandy Sea, a nearly endless desert created by millennia of irresponsible use of necromantic magic. To the south are the Barrier Mountains, beyond which is unexplored rainforest inhabited by halfling tribes, and to the north are the Mammoth Steppes, a tundra-like barren region populated by elven nomads. To the east is the Dropoff, a former oceanic shelf, now a wide and unexplored pit, and to the west is endless dunes and rocks. Dotted throughout the world are city-states of varying power and influence, out of which the DM should choose and flesh out one to base the campaign. The Sandy Sea is cruel and unforgiving, and adventurers will have a hard time traversing the shifting sands steeped in ancient magic—should they succeed, however, bards will sing of their triumphs for millennia to come.

Black Sun is currently in the PLAYTEST phase of development. These rules aren't concrete yet, so feel free to leave feedback in the comments!
