Shrine Crew [Free]

Shrine Crew [Free]: by @SprintingOwl

You've seen him from your vantage point in the hills, wandering through the high grasses by the trade road's side. His eyes are sharp, his blade is red, and his face is set in an emotionless mask.

It is that last part that concerns you.

Less than a moon ago, he was the governor of this province. Now deposed, he wanders the pampas fields and the byways, whittling away at the troops of the rival that unseated him.

His family is dead. You know this. His closest friends and advisors are bodies cooling in the summer air.

And yet, your greatest worry is not that he will join them---it is that he will succeed in his mission of retribution. And when he does, he will inflict every harsh lesson his heart has just learned upon the beasts and bandits and villagers of this land.

Unaware of his own suffering, he will become a tyrant.

Thus, you have gathered in the hills. Thus, you have watched him.

It is still possible to save him, you believe, although you can't do so by standing in his way.

You will have to approach him obliquely, ask for favors, beg for aid, tell him of opportunities, and show him that there is a world beyond the iron armor of his own sorrow.

If you succeed, it still may not save any lives, but it will at least save one soul.
