Nyctophobia [Free]

You are a team of paranormal investigators.

You follow local folklore, urban legends, and ambiguous eyewitness reports, which lead you into dark, abandoned places.

By combining traditional methods, like Ouija boards and dowsing pendulums, with high-tech devices, like electromagnetic feld meters and night-vision cameras, you have everything you need to determine the nature of whatever entities the rumours have led you to.

Your most important tool is your open mind, because who knows what you might find out there? It could be ghosts, UFOs, aliens, or cryptids. It could be ab-human vibrations intruding from the Outer Circle. It could be a living spiritual fungus growing parasitically on the aether-fibre. An astral Sasquatch. A devil taken animal shape. A fire vampire. A rake. A rat witch. A cave goblin. The fairy king.

And if you can capture evidence – real, undeniable, scientific evidence – then you will be famous. It would change the world forever.

Nyctophobia is a game of paranormal investigation that uses the Belonging Outside Belonging engine, a narrative system played with no dice and no masters. Each player has a character of their own, but worldbuilding and setting elements are also created collaboratively around the table.

The game is inspired by the video game Phasmophobia, TV shows like Hellier, and podcasts like Strange Familiars and The Black Tapes.

The current file is a complete, playable beta version.
